Osteoporosis is a systemic, progressive metabolic disease of the skeletal system, characterised by an increased risk of fracture due to loss of bone mass and weakening of the structure. The population is about. 10% of the population, but the figure is 30% for people over 50.
Fractures resulting from the disease (hip, vertebrae, forearm) have a serious impact on mobility and quality of life.
Osteoporosis can also be an accompanying symptom of many diseases, such as endocrine disorders, malabsorption, kidney disease, diabetes, long-term steroid treatment.
Today, there are a number of bone-building drugs on the market, which, together with adequate calcium and vitamin D supplementation, form the basis of therapy. It is very important to prevent fractures and falls by maintaining adequate muscle strength and using medical aids.
