A walk in Debrecen – or, as we call it here, a stroll – is made all the more memorable by the city’s fountain-filled, flower-filled squares and parks. The different styles of buildings, the streets with old stories and of course the Piac Street, once home to Debrecen’s famous fairs, create a pleasant atmosphere.
The Nagyerdő is a popular destination : the area around the open-air stage, the stadium, the spa and Lake Békás.
The water tower has been transformed into an entertainment centre, where the brave can go rock climbing, and the impressive evening light show is complemented by the nearby Fog Theatre. And there’s the Zoo, where you can see animals from all over the world, as well as the native species of the Carpathian Basin.
What does it take to have a good time in a modern European city? In addition to attractions, modern shopping centres, exciting cultural and sporting events, there is of course the experience of having fun. Well, Debrecen is not lacking in this either! One by one, cosy cafés and bistros open, street food is a hit, and there are a host of terraces and speciality places to visit.
